EMA – Education Maintenance Allowance

Parents/Guardians who are recipients of a CentreLink Health Care Card or Veteran Affairs Card are eligible to apply for the EMA.

Can only apply for children up to the age of 16 years.

EMA applications can be processed twice a year (start of Semester 1 and Semester 2).  It’s in the interest of parents/guardians to apply at the start of the year whereby they will receive the grant for the full school year.  Otherwise, applications can be lodged in Semester 2 however, a smaller portion of funds will be granted for the year. (70% of allowance is granted in the first half of the year and 30% in the second half of the year).  Those families that apply at the start of the year do not need to apply again in Semester 2.

After the application is processed the family will receive a cheque to the value of 70% or 30% of grant and the school will receive an equal value of funds for the child. This money remains at the school for the family to utilise on expenses such as uniform, books, ERC, camps and some excursions.ERC – Education Resource Charges

In 2008 the ERC has been set at $110.00 for Yrs 7 – 9 and $140.00 for Yrs 10 – 12. This does increase in accordance to the CPI from year to year. Payment of the ERC entitles students to the several items (please see emailed attachments- pls note payment dates).

Families that have applied for the EMA can have their ERC covered by these funds.  In this case the only outlay of costs will be for the diary that is required by the student for the first day of school.

School Start Bonus

All families of new Yr 7 students are entitled to the School Start Bonus.

A voucher will be posted to the specified residential address in December. This voucher can be cashed in at an Australia Post outlet some time in January the following year.

College Uniform

SASC has a firm uniform policy in place.  All students are expected to adhere to this policy.

Uniforms are only available from the school.  There is no external site to purchase uniforms from.

The school uniform shop operates twice weekly during the lunchtime period.  Operating hours are extended during busy periods (ie: Orientation Days and Start of Year)

EMA funds can be used for uniform purchases.  Students/Families will need to check at the General Office before utilising EMA funds for uniform purchases.

Enrolment

Initial enquiries can be made through the General Office where the query will be placed with the appropriate sub-school – this is generally completed with a sub-school leader.

The Enrolment form must be completed in full before the start date of the student.

It is vital that all relevant medical and contact information is completed.

Transition (Primary to Secondary School)

Parents/Guardians complete transition forms stating secondary school preferences some time in Semester 1.

Parent/Guardians are notified via the Primary School as to where the child has been placed.

All relevant documentation (Enrolment Forms, Asthma Forms, Internet Agreement Forms etc) must be fully completed and returned by August of the same year.

Change of Details

Student data must be accurate and update at all times. There are Change of Details forms that can be completed at the office or alternately a co-ordinator or office staff member can be contacted by phone.

Early Dismissal

Students leaving school early must be signed out by a parent/guardian. Parents must come to the General Office to sign the student as an early leaver for the day. Under no circumstances will a student be allowed to leave school early without parental approval.

Second Hand Book Shop

Begins operating at the school early December.

EMA funds can be used for second hand books.  Students/Families will need to check at the General Office before utilising EMA funds for second hand books.

Attendance Policy

All students must have an attendance rate of 90% or over.  Failure in attendance may reflect on promotion to the next level.

Any absence must be explained via a signed note from the parent/guardian or a phone call to the school on the day of absence.

Absences are followed up by home group co-ordinators when there is no explanation provided for the absence.  This usually involves a phone call home on the day of absence.

Lateness

Students must report to the General Office for a late pass.  Late passes are generated at the General Office up to the end of period 1 (9:45am). Students must report directly to the co-ordinators office if they are late after this time.

Detention will be given to those students that are regularly late.

Book lists, fees & charges (Click Landmark link below)

  Landmark

Families can opt to purchase books from the school book supplier. Booklists are submitted to the school usually in the 2nd week of December.

The in formation package including the book list is distributed to families in November.

Books can then be collected form the school usually late Jan the following year. The EMA can go towards the cost of these books as long as there is a balance of funds available from the year before.

If there are insufficient funds the family will need to cover the difference.
